The solicitor Emil Heijne (1891-1948) founded Emil Heijnes Advokatbyrå in 1920. A total of nineteen junior lawyers were trained at the firm, including Fritiof Nilson ”Piraten”, Ivan Brehmer, Bengt Landahl, Per H Gedda, Magnus Wistrand and Magnus Lindahl. Emil Heijne devoted much of his time to his role as teacher, and his habit of meticulously and rigorously correcting pleas with a small pencil earned him the nickname of ”Knight of the Short Pencil”. When he died, Emil Heijne was honoured as one of Sweden’s leading and most consulted solicitors. The main focus of the firm’s activities was on commercial law, and contract clients included Torsten Kreuger, Hasselblad & Co, and the Bonde, Piper and Stjernswärd families.
In 1968, the solicitor Jan Öberg (1930-1994) took over the activities of the law firm of Söderén, where he had begun his career, and founded Jan Öberg Advokatbyrå. The client book included a number of clients connected with Mo & Domsjö AB, and these contracts were retained by the firm over the years. Jan Öberg worked a great deal with accountants, which led his activities to focus on small and medium-sized companies and on the entrepreneur as both business owner and private individual. The latter caused him to expand the firm’s expertise in family law by hiring and later inviting as partners lawyer colleagues specialised in family law. The structure based on commercial law and family law was maintained and developed in a positive way.
In 1996 Heijnes Advokatkontor and Jan Öbergs Advokatbyrå merged to form Öberg and Heijne Advokatbyrå. The main emphasis of activities continues to be on commercial law and family law. The firm currently employs 17 people, of which 15 are lawyers. Our Stockholm office is located near Humlegården in the centre of the city and our Eskilstuna office on Fristadstorget, also in the heart of town. The Eskilstuna office currently employs two solicitors.
